The Urban League of Greater Madison

Volunteerism

The Urban League of Greater Madison’s mission is to ensure that African Americans and other community members are educated, employed, and empowered to live well, advance professionally, and contribute to the common good in the 21st century. Because of this mission, we strive to make an impact in the greater Madison community from volunteering at local food pantries, community centers, home building projects, and partnering with the National Young Professional chapter to put on initiatives nationwide with our fellow YP chapters.

Philanthropy

As a volunteer auxiliary of community leaders here in Madison and the surrounding areas, we pride ourselves in giving back either financially or with our time. Our goal alongside the Urban League of Greater Madison is to empower our community through transformation, participating in social and cultural activities, and giving back to the community that has helped us to thrive.

Membership Development

We have a variety of committees that members can serve on, and if called, lead. Our committees include Advocacy, Community Service, Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, Membership, Personal & Professional Development, Policy & Procedures, and Social & Cultural. We believe that building and helping our members to develop either personally or professionally will continue to help us build a stronger and healthier community.

These efforts are accomplished through intentional programming geared towards civic engagement, voter rights, and engagement.

The Community Service Committee’s main focus is to find activities in the community for members to engage with, build relationships with civic, business and community leaders in the Greater Madison area, and plan and implement outreach activities for the chapter.

Fundraising: Dedicated to expanding the opportunities available to chapter members and the range of events our chapter can host and produce for the Greater Madison community. The Fundraising Committee’s main focus is to raise funds for all aspects of chapter activities and develop partnerships with local, regional and national organizations.

Marketing & Communication: Dedicated to supporting and equipping our chapter with the resources and tools to implement effective marketing strategies, by providing comprehensive marketing support, utilizing innovative tools and platforms, and continuously adapting to the evolving digital landscape. The Marketing & Communications Committee’s main focus is to contribute to the organization’s overall marketing and promotional effectiveness, ensuring lasting stability and impactful engagement with members and the broader community.

Membership: Dedicated to empowering YPs and fostering a sense of belonging within the chapter by providing guidance on recruitment and retention best practices and leveraging collaborative initiatives. The Membership Committee’s main focus is to ignite the enthusiasm and engagement of young professionals across our community and partnering with our committee to support efforts that contribute to the organization’s overall growth and impact, positioning ULGMYP as a leading force in supporting and empowering young professionals in their personal and professional journeys.
